TourFor

TOURFOR is a project whose goal is to bring together tourism and the forest industry.  Part of the Fifth Environmental Action Programme TOURFOR focuses on sustainable development.  To support efforts to close the gap between tourism and the forest industry TOURFOR has developed an award called the TOURFOR award.  The TOURFOR award helps support forest based tourism.   One of TOURFORS projects is the EMS (Environmental Management System), the EMS helps develop better working practices and overall environmental standards.  TOURFOR strongly encourages sustainability.  With the help of the DGXI (the Directorate General for environmental affairs of the European Commission) TOURFOR hopes to increase sustainability in many different forest and tourism related industries.  The TOURFOR award receivers receive benefits including, lower costs of business associated with environmental efficiency in business practices, encouragement for local tourism, and a more marketable environmentally friendly image.   TOURFOR helps encourage all efforts to bridge the gap between tourism and forestry  and water conservation.
